Barbara M
Twaddle
Oct 5, 1922 — Dec 29, 2021
Barbara Matson Twaddle, of Arlington Heights, IL, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died gracefully and peacefully in her 100th year on December 29, 2021.
Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Herbert Granger Twaddle (1920 - 2003). She is survived by her children Michael E Twaddell (Sophia) of Evanston, IL, George M Twaddle (Maria Falcone, M.D.) of Granger, IN and Martha Twaddle Millar, M.D. (Thomas) of Libertyville, IL; grandchildren Sarah and Douglas Millar, Alexander and James Twaddle and Alexander (Camila) Edward (Erika), and William Maass.
Born Mary Barbara Matson on October 5, 1922 in Tulsa OK to the late Mary Beulah Edwards and George Charlton Matson. Barbara attended Randolph-Macon College, graduated from the University of Arizona (BA-piano), attended the Katharine Gibbs School in New York, and graduated from Rosary College (MLS). Barbara was proud to be a lifetime Kappa Kappa Gamma member.
Barbara was admired throughout her adult life as a very cultivated woman who loved her husband, family, friends, and her Presbyterian faith, most recently as a longtime member of First Presbyterian - Arlington Heights.
Barbara embraced hospitality - she often joked that she needed her own "Nation's Innkeeper" jacket to honor the arrival of the many guests that visited her and family over the decades.
Barbara and Herbert loved to square dance, research genealogy, attend Chicago Symphony and Goodman Theater productions, and attend regular Twaddle family reunions. Barbara loved to play both of the pianos in her home. When the time came to find her pianos new homes, she gave one to a music student who provided no-charge music lessons to kids who did not have the means to afford a piano tutor.
Barbara was preceded in death by her brothers Thomas Edwards Matson of Tulsa, OK and George Charlton Matson, Jr of Oklahoma City, OK.
In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to Barbara's favorite charities, Philbrook Art Museum and Gardens (Tulsa), Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods (IL), First Presbyterian Church - Arlington Heights (IL), and anyone needing a hand to pull themselves up.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. If you would like to be notified when it is scheduled, please email the family at presby28@gmail.com.
