Charles C. "Chuck" Clark, III, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

Chuck was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Fort Buchanan. Over the course of his childhood, his family resided in Fort Riley, Kansas; Wurzburg, Germany; Fort Benning, Georgia, and eventually settled close to Mt. Vernon in Alexandria, Virginia. He was a graduate of James Madison University and, later, a Tax Auditor for the Internal Revenue Service for 7 years before becoming a self-employed accountant.  He met his future wife, Sandy at the IRS and they began dating in 1978. They lived and raised Devon in Woodbridge, Virginia for 20+ years.

Chuck enjoyed being active, playing slow pitch softball for over a decade and later jogging, hiking and backpacking. He and Sandy visited many National Parks across the US, backpacked in Alaska and section hiked more than half of the Appalachian Trail (where he also volunteered his time maintaining the trail).

Although he moved around as a child, he always considered West Virginia his true home. It was a fitting retirement when Sandy and Chuck built a log home in Alderson, West Virginia on 30 acres. A lifelong lover of nature and animals, and a vegetarian for over 30 years, there was no greater joy for him than watching turkeys, deer, bears, birds, coyotes, squirrels, skunks, snakes and possums from his front porch. They often said it was "Almost Heaven."

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sandy; his daughter Devon (Thomas "Bo") Nelson; his sister Mary Francine "Fran" Shaffer; his nephew Aaron; and his grandchildren Clark and Evangeline; He is preceded in death by his father Charles and mother Mary. He was a loving cat dad to Harvey, Chessie, Riffraff and Cosmo.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Residential Hospice, the North Shore Senior Center House of Welcome, and Mary of Chicago Methodist Senior Services for their compassionate care and support.
