Christopher
Dean
Aug 20, 1972 — May 15, 2026
Christopher Dean, 53, of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, passed away on May 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Born in Trenton, New Jersey, on August 20, 1972, Chris carried the heart of a small-town kid throughout his life—grounded, genuine, and quick to make anyone around him feel at ease. He earned his MBA in Business Management from Nova Southeastern University and proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years.
Chris and Meredith were married on December 22, 2006, and spent nearly twenty years building a life together—one full of love, laughter, and a memorable engagement in Napa Valley that set the tone for everything that followed.
Above all, Chris was a devoted father. He is survived by his children, Drew Dean (Kerri) (31), Jack Dean (17), and Quinn Dean (15), whom he loved with all his heart. He cherished time with his family, especially taking them to baseball games. Chris had a playful spirit and a wonderful sense of humor—he never missed a chance to be silly, often wearing funny T-shirts or outfits just to make his kids laugh, even if it meant a little embarrassment along the way.
Chris was a passionate runner who completed several marathons. Running was his therapy—a source of strength and peace—especially during the first year of his diagnosis, when he ran nearly every day through many of his treatments. He was actively involved with All Community Events, where he found joy in participating in local races and connecting with the running community. In addition to running, Chris also enjoyed playing soccer, another way he stayed active and connected to the sports he loved.
Chris approached life with enthusiasm and a deep love for adventure. He enjoyed exploring new restaurants, celebrating his birthday with experiences like indoor skydiving, traveling (though he would be the first to say that Disney World didn't count as a real vacation), and seeing his favorite bands live. He had a remarkable sense of humor and a steady optimism, always believing that everything would work out. He often shared the saying, "You can't change the wind, but you can adjust your sails," a reflection of the way he lived his life.
Chris is survived by his wife, Meredith Dean; his children, Drew Dean (Kerri) (31), Jack Dean (17), and Quinn Dean (15); his father, Joel Dean; his brother, Scott Dean; his niece, Kim; and his nephews, Justin, Jeremy, Jacob and great nephew Dash.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Dean, and his first wife, April Dean, the beloved mother of Drew, his nephew Josh Dean and great niece DJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Chris's memory to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance at ccalliance.org. A GoFundMe has also been established in support of the family (gofund.me/49f1d5e3c). There will be a celebration of life in honor of Chris, however that will be planned at a later date.
