Christopher James
Ricco
Sep 2, 1956 — May 21, 2023
Northbrook
Christopher James Ricco, 66, of Northbrook, Illinois passed into eternal life surrounded by his loving family on May 21, 2023 following a long cancer battle. He was born on September 2, 1956, to Audrey and Frank Ricco in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Chris was brother to Gary Ricco, (Denise), and Donna Ricco, (Rob Deaner), and especially loved his six nephews, Matthew, Ryan, and Christopher Ricco, and Marshall, Cooper, and Dexter Puls. He was a cherished nephew, cousin and friend to many.
Upon graduation from Marquette University with a journalism degree, Chris began his career in Chicago at the Chicago Sun Times followed by Crain's Chicago Business. He relocated to Miami in 1990 to work at the Miami Herald. Chris was a talented writer and creative graphic artist specializing in page content and layout. He loved his work in publishing and his many associates who became friends throughout his career.
Chris decided to move back to the Chicago area in 2019 to be closer to family in Northbrook and friends in the Midwest. He was happy to join the "card club" with family and friends to play Sheepshead each month. Chris was a generous soul and never came to gatherings empty handed. His Swedish meatballs, deviled eggs, cakes, cookies and other goodies will be missed by many.
Chris was a voracious cover to cover newspaper reader, and was able to retain and share facts about current events and popular culture. He especially loved the comics. He enjoyed classic movies from the 20's through the 80's and collected recordings of his favorites on the AMC channel to watch at his leisure. Chris was a saver and loved a bargain. He collected coupons to cash in on groceries and was always up for shopping trips to the outlet shops.
Always conscientious, Chris greeted clerks, service workers and hospital staff by name and always considered others' needs ahead of his own. We will miss his witty humor, keen observations, endless questions and beautiful resonant voice as we gather to celebrate his life and remember him forever.
A memorial service will take place on June 9, 2023, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1133 Pfingsten Rd., Northbrook, IL. We will gather there at 10:00 am and the service will begin at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association, at https://www.ecaware.org/
