Daniel Schiff, MD, age 93, of Lincolnwood, IL, died peacefully on April 8 ^th , 2023 from Parkinson's Disease. Dan was born in Chicago, IL on June 6 ^th , 1929 to Emil and Rebecca (Block) Schiff.

Dan identified first and foremost as a physician. He completed his undergraduate degree and medical school at the University of Illinois and was a proud member of the AOA medical honors society. He worked many jobs in the Chicago area to pay for his education including construction worker, cab driver, and his favorite – El conductor. His internship year, at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, made a lasting impression on him and generated many stories about life at the hospital and his patients. He completed his residency in psychiatry at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and focused his practice on adolescents, including serving at the Juvenile Court in Cook County and Audy Home Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago for 34 years. He continued his practice part-time into his 80's.

Outside of medicine, Dan had many hobbies that involved a lifelong love of learning. He appreciated all types of music and collected so many tapes and CDs that it was impossible to count them all. He was an avid reader of most types of books, although history and accounts of war were his real favorites. In his last few years, he read many presidential biographies, especially those presidents whom he liked most. In addition to reading, Dan was a great storyteller and teacher. He always had a story for his family, friends and his caregivers. Gardening was also one of his hobbies. After he and his wife Valerie downsized to a high-rise condo in Evanston, he began finding and improving abandoned flower boxes and small plots of land with guerilla gardening – planting flowers under stealth of darkness.

Dan was a devoted husband to his wife Valerie Engel Schiff who preceded him in death. Dan is survived by his daughter Melissa Schiff, his son-in-law An-Shyang (Hopper) Chu, his grandson Gregory Chu as well as his stepchildren Leslie, David, and Jeff Engel. He is also survived by Barbara Sedar, a dear long-standing friend to him and Valerie. Family members who passed away prior to Dan include his first wife Gloria Copeland Schiff and his sons Elliot and Stuart Schiff as well as his sister Lois (Schiff) Riback.

Dan would always end conversations with a unique farewell. So, we all say to you Dan our last "G'bye G'bye."
