Gonzalo Galvan, age 86, passed away on November 16, 2025. Born in rural Mexico, Gonzalo lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering work ethic, and profound devotion to his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years Altagracia, and his oldest daughter Carolina in 2020.

Gonzalo is survived by his children Fernando (Veronica), Imelda (Martin), Maria (Juvenal), Gonzalo (Martha), Isaias (Carrie), Ricardo (Yadira), and Daniel (Lindsay), Elizabeth; as well as 25 grandchildren: Pepe, Dino, Lupe, Robert, Jonathan, Alondra, Fernandito, Martín, Yesenia, Alex, Marylou, Dorian, Dylan, Christian, Briana, Sergio, Brenda, Matthew, Emily, Nick, Andy

Aliyah, Cecilia, Karina, Archer and 7 great-grandchildren: Sofia, Mathias, Violeta, Santiago, Cassie, Camila, Luca all of whom he cherished deeply.

A man of simple joys and strong convictions, Gonzalo loved his wife above all else. He found happiness in a hot cup of coffee, lively tamborazo music, the companionship of his chihuahuas, and the bustle of his large family. He admired Ronald Reagan, watched mass and prayed the rosary and divine mercy daily, and never left the house without his cherished sombrero.

Gonzalo was proudest of bringing his entire family to the United States, opening doors for future generations through sacrifice, courage, and resilience. Throughout his life he worked with dignity and dedication — he was the first person in his rancho to buy a truck and took pride in working for himself transporting goods and people to nearby towns. He had to give that up when he began seasonal work in the United States leaving his growing family for many months at a time for over a decade in order to provide a better life and opportunities and eventually became a print machinist for Modagraphics and took a second shift job as a janitor with a public school in Chicago in order to save up enough money to bring his wife and seven children across the border and all the way to Rolling Meadows for a few years before settling in Mount Prospect where they have lived for over forty years. He later took a job as a crossing guard at the neighborhood elementary school in his golden years. He approached every job with humility, pride and joy.

Gonzalo's legacy is one of love, perseverance, and faith. His life and example will continue to guide his family for generations.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at St. Emily Church in Mt. Prospect. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Internment of ashes will follow at All Saints Cemetery.

Hombre de alegrías sencillas y convicciones firmes, Gonzalo amó a su esposa por encima de todo. Encontraba felicidad en una taza de café caliente, la música alegre de tamborazo, la compañía de sus chihuahuas y el bullicio de su gran familia. Admiraba a Ronald Reagan, veía la misa y rezaba el rosario y la Divina Misericordia diariamente, y nunca salía de su casa sin su querido sombrero.

Gonzalo estaba más orgulloso de haber traído a toda su familia a los Estados Unidos, abriendo puertas para las futuras generaciones a través del sacrificio, el valor y la resiliencia. A lo largo de su vida trabajó con dignidad y dedicación: fue la primera persona en su rancho en comprar una camioneta y se enorgullecía de trabajar por su cuenta transportando mercancías y personas a los pueblos cercanos. Tuvo que dejar ese trabajo cuando comenzó a trabajar por temporadas en Estados Unidos, dejando a su creciente familia durante muchos meses al año por más de una década para poder brindarles una vida y oportunidades mejores. Eventualmente trabajó como maquinista de impresión en Modagraphics y tomó un segundo turno como conserje en una escuela pública de Chicago para ahorrar lo suficiente y traer a su esposa y siete hijos, quienes cruzaron la frontera y llegaron hasta Rolling Meadows por unos años antes de establecerse en Mount Prospect, donde han vivido por más de cuarenta años. Más adelante trabajó como guardia de cruce en la escuela primaria del vecindario durante sus años dorados. Se acercó a cada trabajo con humildad, orgullo y alegría.

El legado de Gonzalo es uno de amor, perseverancia y fe. Su vida y su ejemplo seguirán guiando a su familia por generaciones.

Los servicios funerarios se llevarán a cabo el sábado 22 de noviembre de 2025 en la Iglesia St. Emily en Mt. Prospect. La visita comenzará a las 10:00 a.m., seguida por la Misa de Cuerpo Presente a las 11:00 a.m. La inhumación de las cenizas tendrá lugar después en el cementerio All Saints.
