Grace Kikue
Uyehara
Dec 10, 1919 — Jun 9, 2021
Lincolnshire
Grace Kikue Uyehara passed away peacefully at 101, surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 9, 2021.
She was born on the island of Hawaii on December 10, 1919. She spent her childhood between Hawaii and Oahu, married Harry Jiro and worked hard to raise six children - Edwin (Maria), Velma Chioymi Kaneshiro (deceased) (Gilbert), Mary-Ann Tsugawa (Llewellyn 'Mahi'), Wallace (Vanessa), Janice Kadooka (Gary, deceased), and Kelvin (Marietta).
At 101 she survived the historic events of the Greatest Generation, modeling resiliency through hard times, serving as a pillar of strength for her family, and later on, as a role model to her twelve grandchildren - Lisa, Alex, Aaron, Farell, Silvan, Jarran, Gregg, Kimberly "Kanani", Brandon, Reese (deceased), Erica and Karla - and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Grace will be remembered as strong, kind, and generous. She chose to see the good and be happy. She laughed out loud, even until her last days, and made those around her smile. She had an adventurous spirit, enjoying travel with friends to explore faraway places and to see family, always present for milestone events, no matter the distance.
She spend most of her life in Hawaii, living with family in Mililani and Ewa Beach. In 2016, she moved to Chicago (with Edwin) to be with family there, and we are happy to bring her home to Hawaii for her final resting place.
The family would like to thank Wilshire (Lincolnshire, IL) staff for their loving support of her final days.
Services at Hawaiian Memorail Park, Kaneohi at a later date.
