It is with heavy hearts that we announce Guenter Hoffmann of Prospect Heights, Illinois passed away in the comfort of his home with family by his side on October 20, 2025. He was 87.

Born in Germany, Guenter and his family immigrated to the United States when he was 16. They settled in Chicago, where he and his three siblings enjoyed going to the beach and dance halls every weekend. This city is where he met his wife Brigitte. They married and moved to the suburbs where they started a family. As a couple, their enjoyment revolved around yard work and the gardening of flowers, vegetables and herbs.

Guenter built a successful career as a Local 73 sheet metal worker, dedicating 49 years to his craft. A hardworking and skilled tradesman, he took pride in his work. As a jack of all trades, he was always eager to build something, fix something, or start a renovation project.

Outside of work, Guenter enjoyed travel, bowling and golf. He played on leagues and orchestrated annual golf outings for friends and family. He taught his grandsons to play golf at an early age, creating fond memories playing courses together through the years.

Known for his good humor and generosity, Guenter was always willing to host a party to bring family and friends together to celebrate and observe traditions. Every party was filled with fun and laughter. Amid a life well lived, his greatest love was his ever-growing family. He treasured time together watching sports, playing cards and sharing meals. He equally loved spending time with Cooper and Hazel — granddogs who followed him everywhere.

Guenter is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Brigitte; his son Michael (Kathie); his daughter Christine; beloved grandsons, Michael (Jenna) and Nicholas (Melissa). He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Horst; sister-in-law, Karen; nieces, nephews and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Mathilde; his brother, Bernhard; and sisters, Angela (Peter) and Edith.

Guenter will be deeply missed and remembered with love. A memorial visitation will be held at St. Alphonsus Liguori Church, 411 N. Wheeling Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070 on November 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. with a mass to follow at 11:00 a.m.
