Jane D
Goehler
d. Nov 4, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Jane Dorothy (Washow) Goehler, born on July 23, 1952, passed away at her home in Palatine surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the age of 73.
Known for her infectious laughter and unquenchable passion for life, Jane lived her life to its fullest. She was constantly on the go and seemed to know everyone's name. Those who had the pleasure of meeting Jane would remember how she made them feel. Whether you just met her or knew her for 20 years, she would have you talking and smiling. She had such a way of bringing energy and comfort into every room. Jane simply loved spending time with all her many friends and family members.
Jane loved to travel to visit loved ones or to experience new places. She loved the outdoors; especially hiking, fishing, and boating in northern Wisconsin. She was an avid sports fan from being a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan to following her daughter, Lynne, throughout her soccer career at Eastern Illinois, and constantly traveling to Notre Dame to enjoy tailgates and football games. She even inherited a love for the Loyola Ramblers, Kansas Jayhawks, and Kansas City Chiefs from her daughter-in-law, Erica, and son-in-law, Sean. She loved reading, participating in bowling leagues, and playing games like Bridge, Bunco, Mahjong, and some family-created games like "Dice" and "21."
But above all, Jane had a deep love of learning and teaching others. She shared that gift with thousands of children during her long career as an elementary school teacher. Both of her children followed in her footsteps by becoming educators themselves.
Jane is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, John Goehler; her son Craig Goehler (Erica); her daughter Lynne Murphy (Sean); and her precious granddaughters, Shalane and Ailia Murphy. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Dorothy Washow, and her older brother, Jack Washow.
There will be a service in Jane's memory held at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church at 1201 E. Anderson Dr., Palatine, IL 60074 starting at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 22, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jane to CurePSP.org/donate to support research into the disease that she suffered through during her last few years.
