Obituary

Joseph "Pizza Joe" Barbise, 77 years young, former owner of Munchies Pizza in Elk Grove Village, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He lived a life full of purpose, kindness and devotion to his family and friends.

Joe, loving son to Ruby and Peter, stepson to Don. Former Husband to Lyn and partner to Roxanne. Loving Father to Kelly (Phil), Valerie (Jimmy), Samantha (Austin), Amber (Blake) and late daughters Gina and Tiffany. Adoring Grandfather to Joseph, Michael, Peter, Dimitri, Arthur and Chloe.

Joe was a proud and nurturing Brother to Patty (Stephen). Also, brother to Marie (Lenny) and Uncle to Tina (John), Lenny (Traci) and families. Known as the "Cool Uncle" to Stephanie, Deana, Niki (Rachel) Haley and Dominic. Joe also leaves behind many close friends and extended family who will forever remember his warmth and kindness.

He purchased Munchies in 1983 and worked tirelessly with the help of his family to make it a successful business. Joe's career was marked with dedication and integrity and was fondly known as "Pizza Joe." Often his day started at 3 am prepping and cooking for his customers he cherished. He believed "If you served quality food at a fair price and treated your customers with respect and kindness, you earned a customer for life." Joe retired in 2018 and what a blessing it was. Joe loved spending time with his grandkids, laying in the sun, swimming, golfing, cooking, singing Sinatra and being his own Doctor. He painfully loved watching his favorite team, "The Cubs."  A perfect day for him was Sunny, 70 degrees, listening to Sinatra and a Nap. His real love was family, where he often cooked and taught us how to make some of his favorite dishes like Chicken Vesuvio, Seafood Gravy, Pigs Feet Gravy, Pizza and Calzone. Our dad instilled in us a hard work ethic and love for family, cooking and music.

He did it "His Way."
