Josephine Margaret Shade of Sycamore, Illinois

June 6th, 1931 – July 28th, 2023

Josephine Margaret Shade, 92 of Sycamore, IL went to her Heavenly home on July 28th, 2023.

She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her, especially her loving husband of almost 64 years, Joseph Shade, her son Steven (Marcia) Shade, her daughter Mary (Henry) Fischer, her loving granddaughters, Emma, Lauren, and Rebekah Fischer, and her sister Bernice Franger, as well as countless nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

In passing, Josephine joined her parents Thomas and Antonia Lanagan, her brother Jerome Lanagan, her sister Therese Zavacki, her sister-in-law Mary Anne Lanagan, and her brothers-in-law Gene Zavacki and Fred Franger.

Born and raised in Chicago, Josephine graduated from St. Columbkille Commercial High School.  After high school Josephine worked as a receptionist and secretary for several companies in Chicago.  Josephine and Joe were first introduced while she was visiting her brother Jerry who was stationed in Delaware with the US Air Force and also engaged to Joseph's sister Mary Anne.  After standing up together in Jerry and Mary Anne's wedding, Joseph and Josephine officially started dating over a long-distance relationship between Chicago and Philadelphia. In 1959 after dating for a few years, they got married settling down in the Philadelphia, PA area, where they grew their family with the birth of their son, Steven and daughter, Mary.  Due to Joseph's job, they relocated to Florida where they spent many years and then relocated to California.  To enjoy their retirement years Josephine and Joseph moved back to Florida.  When grandchildren started to arrive, Josephine wanted to be closer to them, so they moved to Sycamore in 1998.

Affectionally known as "Honey", a name given to her by her granddaughter Emma.   She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and watching them play sports, spending hours playing Sorry or Uno with them and sharing her wisdom.

Honey was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sycamore. She was known to love to chat with people and find out their life story in a matter of minutes. One thing for certain, she brought a smile to the face of everyone she met.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 2nd at St. Mary Catholic Church on 322 Waterman St, Sycamore, IL.  There will be a visitation for family and friends at 10:00 am, followed by a Liturgy of the Word service at 10:30 am.
