Laurel Marie "Laurie" Zirkle (née FitzGerald), 70, passed away on February 27, 2024, at her home in Des Plaines, IL, in the presence of her beloved family. She was born on June 9, 1953 in Evanston, IL.

Laurie, as she was known to all, was employed by the Chicago Fire Prevention Bureau and later, by Programmers Investment Corporation when she and her family moved to Des Plaines. She volunteered in her free time at Seasons Hospice, and Catholic Charity's L.O.S.S. program, sharing her caring and compassionate nature. She attended St. Gertrude for primary school and Immaculata and Sacred Heart high schools in Chicago.

Laurie had a deep passion for music (particularly Motown), loved animals, and regularly enjoyed watching movies with her husband. She loved to laugh and was an engaging conversationalist, with a quick wit and warm smile.

She is survived by her husband Randy, sons Scott and Matt, daughters-in-law Heather and Tamila, grandchildren Avery and Mason, and seven siblings. Laurie was preceded in death by her father Earl, mother Eileen, and daughter Mary.

In accordance with her wishes, no funeral or memorial services are planned at this time. Donations are welcome to one of Laurie's favorite causes; Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter in Deerfield, IL.

She will be sorely missed, and the world a poorer place without her. Her memory is a blessing to all who knew her.
