Loretta Helena (Norman) Prescod, aged 87, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021 at a Chicago nursing home after a short illness.

Loretta was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Rose (Garrett) Norman as well as siblings Louise, Lonnie, Vera, Jacob, Robert, and Walter. She is survived by her sister Laura of MO, and her sons Trevor, of CT, Julius and his wife Diane, also of CT, and Tyrone and his wife Bridget of NJ, as well as four granddaughters, Jillian, Marguerite, Olivia, and Emma.

In her early years, she worked as a short order cook and in various food service jobs. While her children were young she was a homemaker, making herself ever present at the local elementary school her children attended in Hartford, CT. In addition, she became an active member of the Salvation Army's North End Corps, where she served in the Home League, as a Junior Soldier Sergeant, and a Sunday School teacher. Before moving to Chicago she worked as a child caregiver.

After living in Chicago several years, she moved to Pioneer Gardens, where she was among its earliest residents and was beloved by the staff and community of seniors. She often wore knitted hats her family sent her and loved to be called Nana. She will be fondly remembered by her loved ones and three sons for her boisterous laughter, story-telling, and her uncanny ability to create nicknames for people.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Pioneer Gardens, Warren Barr South Loop, and Suncrest Hospice for the care provided.
