Lorraine D. Green

It is with much sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved aunt Lorraine D. Green in Chicago, Illinois on July 30, 2024, after a short bout with pneumonia. Lorraine was a native of Springfield, Massachusetts, where she was raised by her parents, Reuben Lee Green Sr. and Mary L. Green. She was one of eight children and was preceded in death by her brothers Reuben Lee Green Jr. and Eli Green and her sisters, Essie Green-Edminston, Katherine Mutcherson, Betty G. Davis, and Judge Iraline G. Barnes. She is survived by her sister Phyllis Green, who resides in Connecticut, and many nieces and nephews throughout the United States.

Lorraine graduated from Classical High School in Springfield in 1970, and from Boston University in 1974 with a degree in Political Science. For most of her adult life she lived in Chicago, where she enjoyed a rich and full life. A devoted Buddhist, she was an active member of Soka Gakkai International-USA, a diverse, nationwide network centered on respect for human dignity and committed to dialogue and nonviolence. From 2011 until her untimely death, Lorraine was employed in roles of increasing responsibility at Navistar Human Resources, a company dedicated to sustainable mobility.

A celebration of Lorraine's life will be held on Saturday, September 14, at 10:00 a.m. at the SGI-USA Chicago Buddhist Center located at 1455 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago, IL 60605.
