Marcia Lynn Lung (Sorensen)

July 20, 1938 – October 9, 2022

Marcia Lung passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, October 9 ^th after a long battle with COPD and other physical challenges, while under the wonderful watch of her caregiver team at Bethesda Rehab and Senior Care in Chicago, where she began her residency in January 2019.

Marcia is survived by her three daughters Karen, Julie and Cindi, Son-in-Law Kurt Gerber, his children Nick and Georgia, Nick's family Darci, Will and Oliver, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, close friends, and her grand-puppies Roxie, Stella and Billie.

Marcia was preceded in death by her husband Michael "Mike", mother and best friend Roberta Sorensen, father Cleo Sorensen, and brother Robert "Sandy" Sorensen.

Marcia was known for her infectious laugh and love of all things musical – plays, concerts at Navy Pier, the seventh inning stretch at Wrigley, greeting cards and even socks. She was a shameless extrovert with a gift of making many lifelong friends.

As a young girl she grew up in the Ravenswood neighborhood, where she attended Pilgrim Lutheran Elementary school and met her future husband Mike, who began courting her at age 13. They spent the next 10 years forming a bond that would lead them down the aisle to exchange vows when she was 23. Marcia fulfilled her lifelong dream of raising children and providing a loving home on the North side of Chicago.

She attended Lakeview High School where she performed in the girl's concert choir and (begrudgingly) played piano. After graduation she worked at the Merchandise Mart as a secretary for the CTA until motherhood came calling. She and Mike welcomed their first of three daughters in 1962.

Her innate ability to make new friends followed her into early adulthood when she joined a monthly Bingo club with other young mothers. They met each month for decades while their families grew and flourished.

Her closest friends enjoyed spending time playing tennis, golf, and vacationing together lakeside in Spooner, Tomahawk, Lake Geneva and especially Waupaca, Wisconsin, where you could always find a rousing game of Charades in one of the cabins. Yosemite Sam anyone?

A Celebration of Life will be held for Marcia at Maggiano's at 240 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, IL 60523. Come join us and share your favorite Marcia memories.
