Marlys Jane Stanton of Schaumburg, Illinois

December 2, 1930 - November 13, 2023

Marlys Jane Stanton (nee Lawrence) died peacefully in her Schaumburg, Illinois home on November 13, 2023. She would have been 93 years old on December 2nd. Marlys was born in St. Paul, MN in 1930 to Lillian and Jack Lawrence. Her family, which included her older sister Shirley, moved to the Chicago area in 1938. She graduated from Niles Township High School in 1949. The same year, her family moved to Phoenix, AZ. But Marlys had already met the love of her life in Chicago, Bill Stanton, and he was coincidentally enrolled at Arizona State College. They continued to date and got married in Phoenix in 1952 at the beautiful historic St. Mary's Church in downtown Phoenix, later named St. Mary's Basilica. They promptly moved back to and lived in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago area for the rest of their lives.

Marlys and Bill had four children, three boys and finally, the girl that Marlys had been longing for. They were the greatest pride and joy of her life. Marlys and Bill spent many years living in their dream house in North Barrington, IL. They were deeply involved with their church, St. Anne Church of Barrington, where Marlys enthusiastically held numerous volunteer positions.

Marlys is survived by her sons, Jeff (Julie), and John, and her daughter Terri (Rob Pienkowski); four grandchildren, Ryan and Kyle (Meghan) Stanton, and Hannah and Nadine Pienkowski; two great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Barbara Godfrey, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband William Stanton and her son, Dan.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
