Mary Lynn Asmus (Henry) passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, in Mount Prospect, Illinois, at the age of 79. Mary Lynn lived a life full of grace, generosity, and deep devotion to her family and community.

Born on July 18, 1945, in Madison, Wisconsin, Mary Lynn cherished her childhood upbringing and remained a lifelong UW Badger fan. She earned her bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and went on to receive a master's degree in Reading Education from National Louis University.

Mary Lynn dedicated over 35 years to teaching, with more than 30 of those years spent inspiring young minds in the first-grade classroom at Indian Grove Elementary School in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Her passion for education was matched by her belief in the potential of every child and her talent for making learning fun.

Outside the classroom, Mary Lynn gave freely of her time and talents. She was an active member of the Mount Prospect Garden Club and treasured her involvement in the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter LG. A lifelong animal lover, she had a special affection for the graceful elegance of giraffes and the gentle beauty of monarch butterflies. Known as "Nana" to her grandchildren, she taught them—and many others—how to find, feed, care for, and release monarchs, becoming a passionate advocate for their protection.

Mary Lynn was known for her impeccable style and eye for beauty—whether in her fashion or home décor, she had a gift for making everything around her more lovely. But more than anything, she was known for her kind and caring heart. She never missed a birthday, a celebration, or a moment to lift someone up. She was always thinking of others.

Her greatest joy came from her family. She and the love of her life, David, shared unforgettable adventures traveling across the United States, Canada, Europe, and even Africa. She poured boundless love into her daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren, cherishing every holiday, activity, and celebration spent together.

Mary Lynn's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her—in every butterfly that dances in a garden, every child who finds joy in reading, every giraffe that brings a smile, and every life she touched with her warmth, wisdom, and love.

Mary Lynn is survived by her devoted husband, David Asmus; her daughter, Leah Farris (Andrea); her beloved grandchildren, Luca (19), Ariella (16), and Liliana (16); and her brother, David Henry (Julie Nottestad). She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Phyllis Henry.
