Purshotam ( Paul) Lal Nanda departed this world on Oct. 2, 2024 comfortably at home surrounded by immediate  family.

Born Oct. 20, 1945 in Kasur, India, to Anant Ram Nanda and Hira Devi Mehta, he was the youngest of six children. In 1947, the family emigrated to India during the India/Pakistan partition. He frequently recalled hiding under his mother's sari during that transition.

He immigrated to the United States in 1962. He met his beloved wife, Rose, at a YWCA dance in New York. They were married in Chicago in 1966 and then moved to India in 1967 where they lived for two years.

Returning  to Chicago, Paul's first job was as a maintenance mechanic for Wyler's Foods. He would wake up at 3:30 a.m. to start work at 5:00. Upon leaving Wyler's after over 25 years of service, he opened a men's clothing store on Clark St. in Chicago. After that, he worked for Parker Hanifen (formerly Sterling Hydraulics) as a welder. In his retirement, he spent time doing what he loved to do most; visiting his grandchildren, barbecuing for others, enjoying good food, and enjoying a nightly cognac.

Paul had an extremely strong work ethic and was determined to put his children through college, and for that they are eternally grateful. He was loved by all who met him, and those younger than him referred to him as Uncle Paul.

He is survived by his loving wife Rose Lopez Nanda, daughter Dr. Deb Nanda-McCartney ( John ), son Sanjay Nanda, and grandchildren Kendyl McCartney, Tristan McCartney, and Liam McCartney.

Family only services will be held at Twin Pines Crematory in Arlington Heights, IL. on Oct. 5. In lieu of flowers the family is kindly requesting memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
