Robert E. Gerberding, of Illinois

January 14, 1932 - April 1, 2022

Robert (Bob) Erwin Gerberding of Carol Stream, IL, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, step-father, step-grandfather, and step-great grandfather  passed away on April 1, 2022 at the age of 91.
Bob was born January 14, 1931 in Elgin, IL to Carl and Dorothy Gerberding. Bob graduated from Elgin High School in 1949. At the age of eight, Bob received a toy printing press and developed a love of printing which led him to print a neighborhood newspaper at a young age. Then he began The Gerberding Press in Elgin, which he operated until 1958. He continued working in the printing industry working in many aspects of printing until his retirement.
He met his first wife, Donna Vee Barnes, and was married in Elgin in 1951-90. They had five children.
Bob then married, Kathleen (Kathy) White on September 7, 1991 and recently celebrated their 30th anniversary. They lived in Carol Stream, IL. With the marriage he gained four step children.
Family was very important to Bob and he loved telling his family and friends many stories from his life. He was fond of showing off their backyard pond. Bob was also known for his love of popcorn, his HO train set, and sharing his passion for trains and travels to see trains throughout the country. Bob was fondly called "Grampa Train" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife Kathy, his children, Deborah (Debbi) (Wayne) Springinsguth of Michigan, Judy (Bob) Drinkall, of Wisconsin, Teri (Bill) Rosenberg of Illinois, Douglas (Nancy) Gerberding  of Arizona, and Andrew (Andy) Gerberding of Wisconsin, eleven grandchildren scattered throughout the country and in Malaysia, twenty four great-grandchildren, sister, Lois (Joseph) Bendick from Elgin, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by his step-children, Larry White, Kerry (Jose) Hernandez, Arthur White, and Nancy Morris, two step-grandchildren, and one step-great grandchild.
There will be a memorial service for Robert on Sunday, April 24 at 1:00 pm at the Lutheran Church of the Master, 580 Kuhn Road, Carol Stream, IL. The service will be followed by a celebration of life reception at the church.
