Ronald E. "Ron" Zemla, 81, of Palatine, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 11, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, Ron grew up on the city's north side at North and Hoyne Avenues. He attended St. George High School and, after graduating, enlisted in the armed forces.

Ron proudly served his country as a United States Marine, carrying the lessons of duty, loyalty, and resilience into every aspect of his life. After his military service, he built a successful career as a IBEW Local 134 commercial electrician, dedicating over 43 years to his craft. A hardworking and skilled tradesman, he took pride in his work and mentored many young electricians, ensuring the next generation carried on the same level of excellence.

Outside of work, Ron had a passion for golf and cherished time on the course with his brothers and friends, sharing laughs, competition, and camaraderie. And for anyone who knew him, his love for animals—both domesticated and wild—was undeniable. Whether it was caring for family pets, feeding wildlife in his backyard, or supporting rescue organizations, Ron had a deep appreciation for all creatures and always made sure they were very well fed.

Above all, Ron was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known for his kindness and generosity. He deeply loved his family and treasured time spent together. He was a dedicated coach, guiding his daughters' soccer teams in their youth, nurturing their competitive spirit as they became collegiate scholarship athletes, and instilling in them the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship along the way. But beyond coaching, he was their biggest fan, especially during their high school and college playing days, supporting them with pride and unwavering love. That same passion later extended to his grandchildren, cheering them on in all their endeavors—whether on the field, in the classroom, or on the stage.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary Ann; his children, Angela (Joe) Ferrazza and Jaime (Doug) Ferry; his siblings, Glen Zemla and Dawn Watkiss; and his cherished grandchildren, Lizzie, Cameron, Charlie, Quinn, and Max. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward and Eleanor; his beloved Aunt Josephine and Uncle Harry Mondry, his sister, Sharon; and his brother, Edward Ronald (Mary Ann).

Visitation will be held on his 82nd birthday; Tuesday, March 11, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness, IL, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at the same location.  Holy Family will provide a Livestream of the service which can be viewed at https://www.holyfamilyparish.org/livestream/

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Residential Hospice, the Palatine Fire Department, and the medical teams at Northwest Community and Glenbrook Hospitals for their unwavering dedication and compassionate care.
