Obituary

Samara Swarajyam Bellam passed away on December 31, 2025.

She was born in Andhra Pradesh, India in 1943 to Kamala Ratnam Lankapalli and Venkata Ramayya Lankapalli. Growing up she excelled in academics and entered medical school at age 15.

At medical school she met Ramamohan Rao Bellam, and they married in 1966. With two small children they moved to the US to join residency programs in New York in 1972. She was chief resident at Wyckoff Heights Hospital in Brooklyn. She and her family moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia where she practiced as a physician, and then to Jonesboro, Georgia.

In addition to her professional career, Samara devoted her time to her family, traveling, and hobbies. She was an accomplished gardener who nurtured indoor plants and managed an extensive outdoor garden full of blooms. Samara also invested her time in learning to paint and to sign classical Indian songs. She and her husband Ram donated to the construction of the Hindu Temple of Atlanta and participated in many of the activities there.

Samara was always laughing and finding humor in life. She was a kind soul who helped her family and her friends whenever they needed support. She doted on her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Samara is survived by her husband Ram, daughter Susmitha, son Shashi, grandchildren Kiran, Katherine, Sohan, and Sonali; brothers Viplav and Arun; and many nieces and nephews.
