Steven Damon Bassill of Libertyville, Illinois

January 14, 1948 - August 16, 2023

Steven Damon Bassill of Libertyville, Illinois, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 16, 2023. In 2017, he was diagnosed with a progressive and terminal illness, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, in addition to battling heart disease for decades.

He was born to Leonidas and Mary Margaret Bassill in Monticello, Indiana, eventually moving to Sycamore, Illinois. His lifelong passion for music started with listening to his mother play piano and sing in the church choir. Steve joined Marilyn's Majorettes in 8th grade as a drummer. He won many drumming competitions and continued participating in the marching band in high school and college. He had great pride in his band, the "Blue Boys," and even had one of their songs played on the local radio station.

Steve graduated from Sycamore High School in Sycamore, Illinois, before receiving his undergraduate business degree from Northwestern University and MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Business. Soon after, he met the love of his life, Linda, and married her in 1975. They raised their three children in Libertyville, Illinois, and Linda still resides in the home they built together.

He had a thriving career consulting internationally for Frank Lynn and Associates for 12 years. His frequent travels took him and his family to Europe, creating life-long friendships. In 1990, he started his own business, QDI Strategies, Inc., which he led successfully until retirement in 2021.

As a lifelong member of the Episcopal church, Steve found his home at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest, IL. He was a faithful and devoted parishioner for over 40 years. Steve never missed an opportunity to volunteer for the church. Some highlights included serving on the vestry, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and mission trips to England, Wyoming, and a Pilgrimage in Israel.

His love for Linda, his family, and the church was only rivaled by his devotion to the Chicago sports teams, especially the Bears, Cubs, and his alma mater football team, Northwestern.

Beloved husband of Linda Bassill. Loving father of Robert (Stephanie) Bassill, Laura (Luke) Mahan, Sarah (Michael) DiMarco. Cherished grandfather of April and Ellie Mahan, Lucy and James Bassill, William, Audrey and Liliana DiMarco. Dear brother to Rosalee (Peter) Ackerman, Nick (Barbara) Bassill, Dan (Emily) Bassill, the late Elaine (Zeke) Dzugan, the late Christopher Bassill, Gloria (Steve) Tatios, the late Diane (Jack) Daniels and Bill (Sally) Bassill.  And a fond uncle and friend to many.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 14th at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 400 E Westminster, Lake Forest, Illinois, with a special musical prelude starting at 10:30 AM. The service will be live-streamed and archived on the church website, https://www.chslf.org, to view at any time.
