Sunny C. Bures (Chong Hui) was born in Seoul, Korea on February 25, 1967. She completed her education and received her nursing degree while serving in the Korean Army. She had great pride in the fact she spoke 3 languages and could communicate in American Sign Language.

She came to the United States in her 20's. She gave birth to her daughter Yonnie in New York. She tragically lost her daughter at the age of 6. Sunny also carried twins and lost them late in her pregnancy.

Later in life Sunny made her home in Lincoln, Nebraska and proudly worked as a nurse in an elderly care facility. She loved taking care of "her special elderly people", they were family to her.

In 2013 she met William(Bill/Will) Bures. They fell in love and planned to get married in the spring of 2014. On a whim, they changed their wedding date to 11/12/13.

They were married at the Nursing Home among her favorite people. Sunny proudly wore a traditional Korean wedding gown and the residents made the decorations. Their special day was perfect.

With their marriage, Sunny proudly became a stepmom to Bill's children Airiel and Keaton. She was so proud to be their mom and she was so excited to have them in her life. Years later, her heart grew as she became a grandma for the first time when her grandson Mason was born. She was elated to hold him for the first time. Four years later her 2nd grandson Joey was born and her heart grew even more.

Sunny had a passion for cooking. She loved making big meals for her family and friends. She would make traditional Korean dishes that everyone grew to love. She loved cooking but even more so loved to watch everyone enjoy her cooking. It gave her so much joy to keep everyone fed. Mason used to ask her to make bop (rice) for him all the time. She would gladly make it for him and sit at the table and eat bop with him any time of day.

Sunny loved to karaoke. She loved to sing "The Rose" by Amanda McBroom but her favorite was "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley. When she was a little girl, she used to sing it for her father, who was an Elvis Presley fan. She always sang it in his memory. She loved to play pool, exercise and dance. She became a Zoomba instructor to share her passion for dance and exercise with others.

Sunny passed away on August 24, 2023, in Chicago, Illinois, at home. She was taken was unexpectedly, too soon and will be missed by all that came to know her. She leaves behind her husband William Bures; stepchildren Airiel Bures (Andy), stepson Keaton Bures; grandsons Mason and Joey; Mother Ki Candella; siblings John Candella, Rita Gonzalez, Michael Candella, Mary (Glen) Candella; parent-In-laws Ray & Linda Bures; sister & brother In-laws, Mary Esther Bures, Sheila (Chad G.) Wehland, Traci (Mike) Roubal (Mike), Tonia (Jim) Girard, Lisa Neville, Robert (Heidi) Bures, Brandon Marker, Katie Marker, Bruce (Samantha) Evans, Chris (Lori) Davis; Nieces/Nephews Cheyenne (Tyler)Baker, Anthony Gonzalez, Logan Kobylarz, Aubrey Kobylarz, Keanu Kobylarz, great nephew Tucker Baker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews through her marriage to William, and several Aunts, Uncles and Friends.

She was welcomed into heaven by her father H. Chong, daughter Yonnie, her 2 babies, Mother-in-law Linda J. Bures, brother-in-law Daniel Bures, nephew Tony Evans, her best friend Vyria and all of her grandparents.

Sunny leaves a hole in the hearts of her family. She was loved and will be missed. Until the day we see her smile and walk together again…. this isn't goodbye, it is "We'll see you later Sunshine".

A Celebration of Life will be planned in Lincoln, Nebraska at a future date.
