On December 23, 2021, Nguyen Van Triem passed away at his home in Hampshire, Illinois at age 83.  After a 10 year struggle with Parkinson's Disease, Triem died peacefully with his wife and oldest son by his side.

Triem was born in Long Xuyen, Vietnam in 1939 to Nguyen Van Ban and Hua Thi Nhung.  He was one of nine children.  He met and married Nguyen Thi Hong Yen in 1968 and moved to Saigon.  They welcomed three children into the world in the midst of the Vietnam War.  After the war, Triem and Yen immigrated to the United States in 1980 where they raised their three children.

Triem loved his family and friends, enjoying time spent with them over beers and cognac.  While his friends and family were widely dispersed over the US and Vietnam, he made time to talk with them on the phone often until Parkinson's made speech difficult.  He was especially proud of his six grandchildren.

Triem is preceded in death by his parents and one brother.  He is survived by his wife Nguyen Thi Hong Yen; his children Phong (Alexandria Tang), Khanh, and Ngan (Ron MacDonald); and grandchildren Connor Nguyen, Caitlyn Nguyen, Carter Nguyen, Aidan MacDonald, Nolan MacDonald, and Bridget MacDonald.

No memorial service or funeral is planned.  A private cremation witnessed by his children and grandchildren is scheduled for December 29.  The family prefers donations be made in memorial to Meadows Association, 1206 Coldspring Road, Elgin, IL 60120 as an expression of sympathy.
