William (Bill) Henry Broms

May 12,1927 - October 21, 2022

Bill passed on at Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, IL after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Lyla (Buckley), his sisters, Cyrilla Kambic and Lyla Schumann, his brother, Edward, and his beloved wife Marjorie (Ripstra). Bill and Marge were married for 68 years until her passing in February of 2019.

Marge and Bill met when his family's moving company moved her family from Chicago to Casey, IL.  After two years of a long distance courtship, they married in 1950 and resided in Niles, IL for 65 years.

Bill is survived by two sons, Roger (Michelle) and Randall (Marianne), his grandchildren Chris, Mark, Samantha, Bill, Maribeth and Jaclyn, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.  He cared deeply about his friends and family and regularly checked in on everyone to see how they were doing and remind them that if they needed anything to let him know.

His grandchildren were his pride and joy.  He enjoyed looking after them, taking them to museums, teaching them life skills, and his and Grammy's trips with the grandkids to Old Country Buffet probably contributed to the restaurant's success.

After graduating from Lane Tech High School in 1945, Bill enlisted in the Army and served as a lieutenant in occupied Korea.  After leaving the military, Bill worked his entire career in the family business, W.P. Broms Moving and Storage.  He had endless entertaining stories to share about his experiences and the people he met from his early days of shoveling coal through moving furniture and pianos, driving trucks and selling moving services.

Bill enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his workshop building and fixing things for his home and for his family, but besides that, he made a heck of a kiddie cocktail.

In 2019, Bill moved into Hearthstone at Luther Village in Arlington Heights and was known for his daily check-ins with the staff.  Everyone knew him and loved him.

Interment will be private.
