Yun Sil Chang was born on January 15, 1932, and transitioned on, January 10, 2023. She was the second oldest of five children born to Sun Wook Chang and Il Sook Oh of Pyongyang, North Korea.

At the outbreak of the Korean War, her family emigrated to South Korea, where she attended Ewha University until she married American James Theodore Stroman and moved to the United States. She had two daughters and two sons, who all became professionals.

Yun Sil was a successful businesswoman, becoming a licensed realtor then operating a private market in Lake Bluff, Illinois. She was an avid outdoorswoman, fitness buff, gardener, and self-taught financier/personal investment expert. She traveled the world to visit family and friends and often cooked for large family gatherings.

She is survived by her sisters, Young Sil Huh (Choon Suk Huh) and Hwa Sil Pak (Chun Won Pak) of Lake Forest, Illinois. She is survived by her children and grandchildren: daughter Sui-Nae Myong Stroman (mother of grandsons James Theodore Stroman Palmer, and Samuel Fredrick Stroman Palmer) son Tae'Ni Chang-Stroman, M.D. (father of grandsons Braxzmyn Chang-Stroman, Broxzmyn Chang-Stroman, step-grandson Anthony Louis Polley, and granddaughters Jocelyn Yun Sil Chang-Stroman, and Mija Il Sook Chang-Stroman), and son Loi Chang-Stroman, M.D. (father of grandsons Loi Harvey Chang-Stroman, and August Gabriel Chang-Stroman) daughter Chan Myong Stroman (mother of grandson James Theodore Stroman Roll and granddaughters Jessamyn Edna Marie Roll and Veronica Marie Roll). She will be missed by daughters-in-law Joy McElroy, M.D. of Hawaii, Jacqueline Marie Chang-Stroman of Indiana, and sons-in-law John Roll of Wisconsin.
