YVONNE DUANE CARLBORG


Our mom/grandma/great-grandma/sister/aunt/friend, took her last breath in this world on
Sunday, June 9, 2024. She slipped away from her tired 91-year-old body and danced up the
stars to heaven to join the family reunion that she had been longing for. What a celebration
there must've been as she was welcomed home!

Yvonne was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1932 to her parents, Lyman and Mildred Higgins. She
grew up in a home rich in love and filled with music. Along with her parents, Yvonne's older
sister, Marilyn Springer, and brother, Terry Higgins, greeted her arrival beyond the skies. She is
survived by her younger sister, Joyce McGath.

The Higgins family moved to Evanston, IL when Yvonne was nine years old. There she
eventually met and married Charles (Don) Carlborg in1949. Their love and family grew as they
raised their six children together. It was a lively home, filled with happiness and activity.
Unfortunately, grief arrived after Don's untimely passing at the age of thirty-five, leaving Yvonne
a widow and single mother at an early age.

She became a strong, independent, outspoken woman, infused with fun and laughter,
doing things her own way, encouraging her children and grandchildren to find the right paths.
Yvonne had a smile that lit up the room, and she shared it freely. She could converse with
anyone, asking questions, giving suggestions. She welcomed others readily into her life, and
once you were in her heart you had a place there forever.

In 1971 Yvonne met Frank Domanico when he was playing trumpet in his Dixieland jazz band.
Their immediate attraction became a forty-eight year relationship. They thoroughly enjoyed
each other's company, sharing their love of music, family and travel. His passing in 2019 left a
huge void in her life.

Yvonne was so proud of her ever-enlarging family, embracing each new addition, by marriage
or by birth. Family was her everything. In the final chapters of her life she continued to be a
feisty spitfire, even as her body was failing. She remembered the good times, and never
stopped dispensing advice. She told us that she had lived a good full life, was loved by two
amazing men, and had wonderful children and grandchildren who took care of her so well. She
was ready to leave, and asked us not to be sad when she was gone. Even so, we very much
miss having her in our lives. It was always her hands that comforted us, lifted us, applauded
us, corrected us, gathered us. Now those hands are beyond our reach. She took pieces of our
hearts with her when she departed, but also left her love embedded within each of us for
always. We will carry her memory into our tomorrows.

Yvonne is survived by:
Her children: Christine (Thomas) Thiry; Kenneth Carlborg (Diane Swanson); Caryn Browne;
Linda (Al) Stevenson; and Charles (Christine) Carlborg. She was predeceased by her son,
William John Carlborg.

Her grandchildren: Lori (Michael) Feeney; Matthew Browne (Angie): Jennifer (Christopher)
Washburn; Elizabeth Edwards; Nicole Browne (Brian Taylor); Michael (Hailed) Thiry; Tricia (Ben)
Logan; Michelle Browne (Dave); Shane (Laura) Pritchett; Ryan (Rachael) Pritchett; Yvonne
(Joseph) Crowell; Joseph (Cailee) Carlborg. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Julie
Michelle Thiry.

Her great-grandchildren: Jade, Kaia, Allison, Maxwell, Ryan, Kailynn, Jocelyn, Alyia, Carlye,
Ella, Steven, Brayden, Henry, Jordyn, Alina, Wyatt, Julie, Ava, Haven, Bowen and Cameron.
She was predeceased by her great-grandson Ryan William Pritchett II.

Her great-great-granddaughter: Haisleigh.

She is also survived by several in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
